Card Tricks for Beginners

If you are one who's always been fascinated with magic and have always wanted to learn a few tricks, then here is where you should start. Go through these easy card tricks that can be performed by beginners.
Some of the best illusions in magic are performed with just a deck of playing cards. Often we are amazed when we watch a magician doing card tricks. In our quest of learning these tricks, we use the Internet, or spend money on DVDs, seminars, etc., which teach us how to perform these tricks.
Most of the time this does help, but sometimes, it is inevitable that you would get stuck somewhere along the instructions and steps. Start with these easy tricks which are simple to understand and even simpler to perform.

First Card Trick

Sort the first ten cards of the deck, irrespective of the suit in the following order: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, A. Step up in front of the audience and start drawing cards from the top of the deck. Keep the cards face down on a table from left to right in the following order: A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Ask a volunteer to shift any number of cards from the left side of the row to the right side of the row, and meanwhile turn your back to ensure that you have not seen what he/she has moved. Once the volunteer is done shifting the cards, turn your back and flip the first card on the right end of the row. This will be the number of cards the volunteer shifted.

The Do I Say Trick

To perform this trick, you will need two complete decks of playing cards. Bring both decks in front of a volunteer and ask him/her to pick a card from the deck. Once the card is picked, ask the volunteer to do as you say.
At this stage, you are free to shuffle, mix, or cut the cards in any way you want, but make sure the volunteer follows suit. At the end of this segment, secretly sneak a look at the bottom card of your deck and memorize it. Keep this as a secret, exchange the decks, and the card the volunteer has picked will be revealed.

The Rising Card

This is an amazing trick in which the spectator selects a card and then loses it in the deck. You need to keep your finger on top of the deck so that when you lift your finger, the spectator's card mysteriously rises itself. For this, you need to place the deck of cards in your right hand and make a small hole in the back of the card box.
Now place the spectator's card on top of the deck and place the deck in the box. Press your first finger against the top card of the deck, push it up, and make it appear to rise out of the deck and the card box. To cover the movement of your first finger, slowly move the box in a circular motion or wave it back or forth.
This will also enable the card to slowly rise out of its box. When the card is extended as far as you can push it, just grab it with the other hand, and confirm that it is the spectator's chosen card.

The Changing Ace

In this trick, by holding the cards in a way that creates a visual illusion, an ace of diamonds mysteriously turns into an ace of hearts. For this, hold ace of clubs, ace of spades, and ace of hearts in such a manner that ace of club card is at the extreme left and the ace of heart card is at the extreme right.
Make sure that the ace of hearts is held at the back and the large heart in its center is upside down. When held like this with the other two cards, the point of the heart will resemble a diamond. Now show the cards to the spectators and ask them to memorize them.
Turn the cards over so that they are face down and then turn over the ace of clubs and ace of spades. Leave the last card (ace of hearts) face down and ask the spectators if they can name the last card. When you will turn over the final card it will be an ace of hearts and not an ace of diamonds.
