Fun Things to Do With Kids When It’s Cold Outside

Mikkie Mills
Winter is a great time to stay in and cuddle up by the fire. However, a few days of this and kids can often become restless. What do you do when it's too cold to go outside though? You don't want them to just watch tv or play on electronics all day, but finding activities to keep them occupied during school breaks is a challenge.

Bake Cookies

If your kids love eating cookies, they'll probably also enjoy baking them. You'll need to supervise them, but let them do most of the work. The more effort they put in, the prouder they will be of the end result. You can choose whatever kind you like, but to help extend this activity, consider making cookies that you have to decorate after they bake.

Go to the Movies

Check your local listings and find a good movie that is on. Some theaters even show old classics for a discounted price, so don't worry if nothing new looks good to you. Just make sure to dress appropriately when going out in the cold. If it's wet out, you may want to consider getting kids rain pants to help your little ones stay dry.

Build a Fort

Grab all of your pillows and some old sheets and build a fort for the day. Let it take over the entire room and just watch the joy on your children's faces as they spend the day playing make believe. This is the perfect way to make memories with them and give them a day they won't forget.

Visit Indoor Play Places

Visiting kids indoor play places is the perfect way to get out of the house when you really start going stir crazy. These places usually include giant indoor playgrounds where your kids can run around and get all of their energy out. They often include a cafe where the parents can sit and relax while still keeping an eye on their kids.

Do Arts and Crafts

Take a trip to the local craft store and stock up on arts and crafts essentials. You can get specific age appropriate projects for your little ones to work on, or you can just get a bunch of supplies and let your kids be creative and come up with their own ideas. There are also lots of different ideas online you can search and get the supplies to do at home.

Play Games

Playing board games together is a great way to bond and have some family fun. Bring out all of your favorite classics and teach your kids how to play. If you don't have many board games at home, try visiting your local secondhand bookshop. In addition to books, they also often have gently used games you can buy for a discounted price.
