Activities for Visual Memory

Finding Objects

In this activity, one of the participants has to hide objects. Choose a leader who does the work of hiding objects. Participants have to remember the place where these objects are hidden by the leader. On the basis of this visual memory, the participating kids should find out the objects.
A little older children won't find this game challenging enough. In order to increase the difficulty level of this activity, the participants can be asked to find objects with specific colors, shapes, etc.

Follow the Leader

This activity is also known by different names like mirror-mirror and copy-cat. Participants of this game have to imitate the actions of their leaders. This game helps improve the gross and fine motor skills. Actions performed by the leaders could be anything like clapping, jumping, running, etc.

Finding the Missing One

This game is played in a large group. One of the child should be made a leader and asked to sit on a chair. While sitting on a chair, he should be facing the crowd. After a while, the leader should be asked to turn away from the crowd. Now, one of the members from the crowd should leave the room.
Meanwhile you can close the eyes of leader to ensure that he doesn't turn and look behind. Once the participant from the crowd has left the room, the leader should be allowed to turn back. The leader should be asked to find the missing participant. It is a nice game for improving your visual memory.

One Minute Game

It is a memory game which requires the player to remember details of a picture. The player has to look at the given picture for a minute and remember as many details as possible.
One should choose such a picture or portrait which contains lots of details. The player who remembers most of the details should be declared winner.

Visual Mix

This game need not be competitive and it can be played as a leisure activity. To perform this activity, you would require a picture that contains images mixed together with other background images. Participants have to pick the related pieces and put them together. You can also find many such visual memory activities online.

Form Constancy Activities

There are many different memory games for kids that come under form constancy. The concept of form constancy can be described as the ability to mentally rotate, flip and turn the different shapes and figures.
It has been observed that some kids find it difficult to perform the mentioned tasks. You can show pictures that contain different shapes to the kids. Ask them to rotate, turn or flip the shapes mentally. You can also ask them to draw the rotated shape on a paper. The form constancy activities should provide them with a good exercise.

Eye Spy

This visual memory game is best played at places that are less-frequented. The child should be first allowed to study the surroundings for a minute. His eyes should then be closed; now you can ask different questions related to that place.
You can ask about objects, colors, shapes, etc. The kid tries to recall these objects and shapes on the basis of visual memory. Practicing in this activity on a regular basis helps in sharpening the memory.

Sorting the Coins

You would need some loose change for this game. Objective of the game is to sort out coins with different values. In the beginning, parents can provide guidance in identifying the coins. The sorting game is a nice visual memory activity for kids.
